It depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after her birth, when she had emerged from the sea fully-grown (called Venus Anadyomene and often depicted in art). The painting is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

This is one of the most famous paintings in the world, an icons of the Italian Renaissance commissioned by a member of the Medici family.

This piece has been endlessly analyzed by historians; the emulation of ancient painters and the context of wedding celebrations (generally agreed), the influence of Renaissance Neo-Platonism (somewhat controversial), and the identity of the commissioners (not agreed). Most art historians agree, however, that the Birth does not require complex analysis to decode its meaning. While there are subtleties in the painting, its main meaning is a straightforward, if individual, treatment of a traditional scene from Greek mythology, and its appeal is sensory and very accessible, hence its enormous popularity.

In the centre the newly-born goddess Venus stands nude in a giant scallop shell. Its size is purely imaginary, and is also found in classical depictions of the subject. At the left the wind god Zephyr blows at her, with the wind shown by lines radiating from his mouth. He is in the air, and carries a young female, who is also blowing, but less forcefully. Both have wings. Vasari was probably correct in identifying her as "Aura", personification of a lighter breeze.[4] Their joint efforts are blowing Venus towards the shore, and blowing the hair and clothes of the other figures to the right.

At the right a female figure who may be floating slightly above the ground holds out a rich cloak or dress to cover Venus when she reaches the shore, as she is about to do. She is one of the three Horae or Hours, Greek minor goddesses of the seasons and of other divisions of time, and attendants of Venus. The floral decoration of her dress suggests she is the Hora of Spring.

Alternative identifications for the two secondary female figures involve those also found in the Primavera; the nymph held by Zephyr may be Chloris, a flower nymph he married in some versions of her story, and the figure on land may be Flora. Flora is generally the Roman equivalent of the Greek Chloris; in the Primavera Chloris is transformed into the figure of Flora next to her, following Ovid's Fasti, but it is hard to see that such a transformation is envisaged here. However, the roses blown along with the two flying figures would be appropriate for Chloris.

The subject is not strictly the "Birth of Venus", a title only given the painting in the nineteenth century, but the next scene in her story, where she arrives on land, blown by the wind. It's beautiful. Took Titian's, Tiziano Vecellio, original oil painting, "Sysyphus," and colored it to make it suitable for men's wear.

In Greek mythology Sisyphus was the king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). He was punished for his self-aggrandizing craftiness and deceitfulness by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity.

There's varied interpretations of Sisyphus, some would say it symbolizes tasks that are both laborious and futile, some regard him as the disk of the sun that rises every day in the east and then sinks into the west, some regard him as a personification of waves rising and falling, or of the treacherous sea The 1st-century BC Epicurean philosopher Lucretius interprets the myth of Sisyphus as personifying politicians aspiring for political office who are constantly defeated, with the quest for power, in itself an "empty thing", being likened to rolling the boulder up the hill. Albert Camus, in his 1942 essay The Myth of Sisyphus, saw Sisyphus as personifying the absurdity of human life, but Camus concludes "one must imagine Sisyphus happy" as "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart."

I prefer Camus' interpretation...resigned to figuratively rolling a rock up a hill each day for eternity, but consistently reaching the top. As the boulder rolls back down the hill there's an opportunity to rest and take in the view from the hilltop, I imagine it'd be majestic and have made the effort worth the struggle. Constantly looking forward to those peaks in our existence, no high's without lows, and those things that are worth achieving may seem futile or laborious. Some injustices may be worth accepting and continuing to move forward. Some struggles, maybe, are worth the brief rewards of the view from the top.

Regardless of your interpretation, I think this piece is a great color combination and regardless of how you assign meaning to the tasks at hand, your struggles, you can still choose to look forward, you can keep moving forward, onward and upward, and choose whether or not you want to be happy.

Don't just wear patterned accessories with your suits, make a statement!

Specifications:
Size: 12 inches x 12 inches
Material: Silk
Pocket Square - Silk Scarf - Edvard Munch's The Lonely Ones - Lost Love, Jealousy, Abandonment – Handkerchief
One of a kind, Men's Pocket Square in silk, charmeuse. Took Edvard Munch's original woodcut, "The Lonely Ones" from 1899 and colored it to make it suitable for men's wear.

The Lonely Ones is a piece of art Munch did a variety of times. Although Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous. Starry Night is one of the most well known images in modern culture as well as being one of the most replicated and sought after prints. It is nearly impossible to shy away from this amazing painting.

One may begin to ask what features within the painting are responsible for its ever growing popularity. There are actually several main aspects that intrigue those who view this image, and each factor affects each individual differently. The aspects will be described below:

1. There is the night sky filled with swirling clouds, stars ablaze with their own luminescence, and a bright crescent moon. Although the features are exaggerated, this is a scene we can all relate to, and also one that most individuals feel comfortable and at ease with. This sky keeps the viewer's eyes moving about the painting, following the curves and creating a visual dot to dot with the stars. This movement keeps the onlooker involved in the painting while the other factors take hold.

2. Below the rolling hills of the horizon lies a small town. There is a peaceful essence flowing from the structures. Perhaps the cool dark colors and the fiery windows spark memories of our own warm childhood years filled with imagination of what exists in the night and dark starry skies. The center point of the town is the tall steeple of the church, reigning largely over the smaller buildings. This steeple casts down a sense of stability onto the town, and also creates a sense of size and seclusion.

3. To the left of the painting there is a massive dark structure that develops an even greater sense of size and isolation. This structure is magnificent when compared to the scale of other objects in the painting. The curving lines mirror that of the sky and create the sensation of depth in the painting. This structure also allows the viewer to interpret what it is. From a mountain to a leafy bush, the analysis of this formation is wide and full of variety.

Van Gogh painted Starry Night while in an Asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889.

During Van Gogh's younger years (1876-1880) he wanted to dedicate his life to evangelization of those in poverty. Many believe that this religious endeavor may be reflected in the eleven stars of the painting. In Genesis 37:9 the following statement is made:

"And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me."

Starry Night Over the Rhone by Vincent van Gogh Whether or not this religious inspiration is true, it is known that the piece is not the only Starry Night painting that Van Gogh ever created. Gogh was quite proud of a piece he had painted earlier in Arles in 1888 that depicted stars reflecting in the Rhone River. Like Starry Night this previous piece shares many of the qualities that have made Starry Night such a popular painting.

On beautiful charmeuse silk, the color combination of a variety of shades of blues and yellows make this pocket square the perfect color combination for navy sportcoats and suits.

Specifications:
Size: 12 inches x 12 inches
Material: Charmeuse Silk
Pocket Square - Silk Scarf - Handkerchief - Edvard Munch's The Scream - Symbolism of our Troubled Times - Gift
One of a kind, Men's Pocket Square in silk, charmeuse. The painting is one of six works by Hassam in the permanent art collection of the White House in Washington DC.

This pocket square features only the flags from the avenue in the rain, the greatest colors and contrast from the painting to make a truly patriotic piece.

Don't just wear patterned accessories with your suits, make a statement!

Specifications:
Size: 12 inches x 12 inches
Material: Silk
One of a kind, Men's Pocket Square based on Gustav Klimt's Painting, The Virgins.

Don't just wear patterned accessories with your suits, make a statement!

The Virgins painting contains multiple flowers representing evolution into womanhood. While sketching for the painting, Klimt wanted his models to make larger than life physical poses. There are six women in the painting (or one woman with four sides to her persona) and all of them seem to be intertwined. The lines are clear and the human themes of love, sexuality and regeneration are obvious in the circular cyclical shape of the work. In painting The Virgins the different life stages are represented by the same woman. Dislocated body parts in outrageous poses move as if under water. The empty shell of a woman's dress at the bottom gives birth to a child (the next generation) via a cascading waterfall of color. Description derived from The Klimt Museum records. The original painting is held at The National Gallery of Prague.

The range of blue hues and sharp contrasts with highlighting colors enables the pocket square to pair easily with a wide range of color palettes. It's beautiful. It's like carrying a secret in your pocket.

This design is a piece of the triptych oil painting on oak panel by the artist Hieronymus Bosch between 1490 and 1510, when Bosch was between 40 and 60 years old. I changed the coloring from a series of greens to a series of pinks to be suitable for menswear.

As so little is known of Bosch's life or intentions, interpretations of his intent have ranged from an admonition of worldly fleshy indulgence, to a dire warning on the perils of life's temptations, to an evocation of ultimate sexual joy. The intricacy of its symbolism, particularly that of the central panel picture in this pocket square, has led to a wide range of interpretations over centuries. Twentieth-century art historians are divided as to whether the panel pictured in this pocket square is a moral warning or a panorama of paradise lost. Peter S. Beagle describes it as an "erotic derangement that turns us all into voyeurs, a place filled with the intoxicating air of perfect liberty"

Don't just wear patterned accessories with your suits, make a statement!

Specifications:
Size: 12 inches x 12 inches
Material: Silk
pocket-square-silk-scarf-handkerchief-god-seated-and-serpent-old-manuscript-and-calendar-graphic-silk-square
Pocket Square - Silk Scarf - Handkerchief - God Seated and Serpent - Old Manuscript and Calendar Graphic Silk Square
One of a kind, Men's Pocket Square in silk, charmeuse.

This pocket square is from a design from an old manuscript, also attached in the photos. Klimt himself died to the Spanish Flu.

This piece symbolizes how death may be able to strike individuals from life, but life itself, humanity as a whole, will always elude his grasp. It's beautiful.

Burned at the stake at 19 years of age for witchcraft, Joan of Arc, declared a martyr, became the Patron Saint of Soldiers and represents so much.

What began by Joan of Arc listening to her mystical “voices” and to her heart eventually freed a people. She dared to defy the prescribed gender roles of her day. Her trust in God gave her courage. Her perseverance allowed her to overcome betrayal by friends and keep her wits at her trial. Through it all, especially at her death, she kept a faith that awes us still.

Joan of Arc, in French Jeanne d'Arc (French pronunciation: ) or Jehanne (c. 1412 – 30 May 1431), nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans", is considered a heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War, and was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint. She was born to Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle Romée, a peasant family, at Domrémy in north-east France. Joan claimed to have received visions of the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine of Alexandria instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent Joan to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief army. She gained prominence after the siege was lifted only nine days later. Several additional swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims. This long-awaited event boosted French morale and paved the way for the final French victory.

On 23 May 1430, she was captured at Compiègne by the Burgundian faction, a group of French nobles allied with the English. She was later handed over to the English and put on trial by the pro-English bishop Pierre Cauchon on a variety of charges. After Cauchon declared her guilty she was burned at the stake on 30 May 1431, dying at about nineteen years of age.

In 1456, an inquisitorial court authorized by Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, debunked the charges against her, pronounced her innocent, and declared her a martyr. In the 16th century she became a symbol of the Catholic League, and in 1803 she was declared a national symbol of France by the decision of Napoleon Bonaparte. She was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920.

Don't just wear patterned accessories with your suits, make a statement!

Specifications:
Size: 12 inches x 12 inches
Material: Silk
pocket-square-silk-scarf-handkerchief-accessory-gift-for-anniversary-passionate-love-danae-gustav-klimt
Pocket Square - Silk Scarf - Handkerchief - Accessory/Gift for Anniversary -Passionate Love - Danae - Gustav Klimt
One of a kind, Men's Pocket Square in silk, charmeuse. A perfect gift for a lover.

Painted by Gustav Klimt in 1909 the woman portrayed is Danaë. According to Greek mythology, Princess Danaë was the daughter and only child of King Acrisius of Argos and Queen Eurydice. After an oracle’s prophecy warned him that his grandson would kill him, King Acrisius locked his daughter in a bronze tower, so that she wouldn’t bear any children. But Zeus, the king of gods, being drawn to the princess, visited her at night in the form of golden rain and impregnated her. The child they had together was the demigod Perseus.

Danae is obviously erotic. The sleeping figure of Danae coils up to meet a fall of golden rain that symbolizes Jupiter. ... The parted lips and legs, the closed eyes, the rolled-down stocking on her ankle, the red hair and diaphanous purple veil are all indicative of Danae's sensual experience and symbolic of a heated romance.

A great gift for a 13th Wedding Anniversary as it's in silk, symbolic of passionate love.

Don't just wear patterned accessories with your suits, make a statement!

Specifications:
Size: 12 inches x 12 inches
Material: Silk
In silk, charmeuse.
