About the artwork

It's of God seated surrounded by a circular serpent biting its own tail as a symbol of the returning cycles of the year. The manuscript is from the 1250s out of Paris, France, though there are some varying interpretations. Main illumination is French, while calendar feasts and binding are Dutch or German.
